Harley-Davidson's new eight-valve Big Twin in 107-inch variant. Podcast-So, you may have heard the vicious rumors going around that Harley-Davidson dealerships are voiding warranties if you install aftermarket exhaust, remove catalytic converters, or install electronic fuel injection (EFI) tuners on your new 2017 model equipped with the Milwaukee-Eight motor. The unreliable motorcycle forums are full of bad information because nobody actually researches the matter. Well, I did that for you and talked to many sources inside Harley-Davidson dealerships. Some of these rumors got started because recently the Screamin Eagle Super Tuner was banned by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and. So, nothing is new with the new 2017 Milwaukee-Eight 107 or 114 ci motors in regards to warranties. For years, all Harley owners have been at risk of having a warranty voided for installing aftermarket exhaust, removing catalytic converters, or adding EFI tuners.
Screaming Eagle Race Tuner
Clearly, dealerships are not supposed to remove catalytic converters, but it's fine to install new Vance & Hines or other aftermarket head pipes without them? The confusion goes on from there. The fact of the matter is that you're still at risk and internal Harley-Davidson policies have not changed.
But, Harley-Davidson leaves much discretion to its dealerships to handle matters such as this. So, what does this really mean for you as a Harley-Davidson owner? Make sure you have a very open line of communication with your local dealership service writer and mechanics. Ask them point blank if they are in the business of voiding your motorcycle warranty if you change pipes, intake, or add an EFI tuner. I can tell you that most will not void your warrant and have not voided warranties for years as it's just bad business all the way around. Especially at these times when Indian and Victory are banging on Harley's doors trying to get a bigger chunk of the market.
If your dealership says they will actually void your Harley warranty for such things then never step foot in that dealership again and tell all your Harley buddies. That would be a personal choice by that particular dealership and I'd make certain they got very little business. You'll have to listen in to this podcast episode to get the full scoop and find out what other things we learned and other tips we give! My 2017 Ultra Limited was flagged by Harley-Davidson because I purchased aftermarket exhaust as part of the bike deal. They are sending a representitive from Milwaukee to my local dealership to visually inspect the bike to ensure the parts have not been installed in order to remove the flag. This flag, if not removed, will void certain parts of the warranty. If I had not purchased the exhaust as part of the bike deal it would have never been flagged and probably would not have been a problem.
You may or may not ever have a problem with the warranty but it is a big gamble on a 30K dollar bike. Well I can tell you that the rumor is 100% true, G.d damnit! I just got off the phone from the dealership. Here’s my story.
After Less than a year of riding my 2017 Street Glide Special and putting 9,000 miles on it the rear head gasket started blowing oil like Niagra Falls. Took it in to get it checked out at the dealership and they said the gasket had slipped and screwed up the piston. They also told me Harley will not cover the repairs under warranty because I put the aftermarket pipes on it and they required a differed tune on the bike. I chose the Vance & Hines Fuelpak. Is there one Harley on the road that doesn’t have aftermarket pipes on?
I haven’t seen one. This is just a way to screw their own customers out of paying for warranty issues. It’s not a dealership issue. Warranty issues have to be approved by Harley. They tell me that they only started doing this a couple of years ago. This is a warning to all Harley owners and the manufacturers of aftermarket exhausts and tuners.
HARLEY WILL DENY WARRANTY CLAIMS IF YOU PUT AFTERMARKET PIPES ON YOUR BIKE! I suspect this knowledge will put a dent into sales of these products and the manufacturers will be none too happy. Get ready for lawsuits MOCO!
Get the word out. Buy slip ons of your choice and keep your stock slip ons untill warrenty is out. If bike has issues put stock slip ons back on untill you get it fixed under warrenty. Once warrenty is over then go get you a good tuner and head pipe and ride on.
But only thing i would touch is the slip on mufflers untill warrenty is up. Even if you have a cool dealership you may have to have warrenty work that requires prior approval from a hd rep. If this happens they will send a tech from hd to whatever dealership you got your bike at for warrenty work and if they see a tuner or pipes the dealership wont get paid for warrenty work. This is all a buncha bs thanks to the epa and harley.
Is anyone using the latest version SEPST 10 at home? With MyTune for spark or VE or both? Seeing we have a thread on how the SE Super Tuner Pro is going, with all the drama in the USA, in a nutshell, is all the software etc, working as it should as before???? Any drama gaining access to software etc, from the USA, (as this is where it all comes from). I have the SE Super Pro Tuner for my 2015 bike, (I have not had to use it at this stage). I am still getting conflicting reports, etc, on what it can do, and what it can't do because of software changes, and all the drama HD are having in the States.
I have spoken to a couple of dealers regarding the SE Super Tuner Pro, and what are there thoughts for the future, and they just look at you, and carry on like fuckwits. Hilly, you seem to be tuning with the above tuner, what are your thoughts???? The software works fine with the Screamin Eagle Pro SUPER Tuner VCI's, I believe the new Screamin Eagle Pro STREET Tuner VCI has less functionality, I think some of the confusion comes from the fact that both VCI's share the same acronym, ie SEPST, so if you have the Pro Super Tuner you are fine, for now. Yes you can still download the software from the HD website, the new version 10 is a bit different to the previous versions in looks and they have added a few bits here and there to simplify the use of it for the average user. If you have a specific question fire away and we can nut it out, some of what you read does happen, sometimes it does not, too many topics to try and cover in one hit but the truth is out there. Screamin' Eagle Pro Super Tuner Version 10.001 is working fine for me so far, I have used it on several bikes now with no dramas. 2008's to 2015's.
Stage 1's to stage 4 kits However my tuning mates in the states reckon for them it's all over red Rover. IT SURE DOES 'LOOK' DIFFERENT! I have version 7.000 on another laptop that I only use for bikes up to 2014, and the difference in the graphics etc etc is huge I have kept that version specifically, A) because I can, and B) it does not HAVE to be updated all the time, it requests it but does not force it. So what I'm reading from above, is that the SE Super Tuner Pro, (which is now not sold in the States), is operating as before, (ie, manipulate the tune to defeat epa regs), the epa dramas hit the States for international countries that are, (at the moment), not in step with the US epa regs?? I just cant get my head around that in the US,(which is where the mother ship is located, and the biggest market), they can't sell the above tuner any more, but they can sell and service, (software wise), this same tuner to countries that are not tied up with the new US epa regs. I did read somewhere, that the new 2107 models can only be tuned, (manipulated), with Harley's new Steet tuner, (to keep tune within epa regs), So this post is really talking about 2016 and earlier models.
Does this sound about right, or am I missing something???? Can't speak for the yanks but in Oz the 2017 bikes can be tuned as before with whatever your choice of tuner is. The Pro Street Tuner has some limitations on parts of the calibration that the US epa have decreed sacrosanct, no personal experience with one so I don't know exactly what that is but I believe idle and cruise AFR are part of it, on the face of it that doesn't seem like such a big deal but who knows what else is locked. As to what you have Mark you are good to go, get the software while the goings good and once you have it don't let it update without knowing what the update is about. That side of it is very easy to control once you know how. I just used the version 10 to tune a new 4 valve harley. The software works in a similar fashion to previous.
One cannot change certain parts of the closed loop area. The numbers will change in the software, but the bike does not. Apart from that, does anyone know how to get rid of the stupid toolbar which blocks half the screen whilst working on it? The bike was a Street Glide 107 with SE mufflers and breather/filter. All a bit soft really. I was expecting the thing would actually go better with all the hype.

It would appear they need some one to make a decent cam for them. The version 9 software will not accept ANY of the new tunes. G'day Lushy, Is this only applicable to the new M8 models??? Ie, the tuner works as before in the closed loop areas on earlier bikes?? Also, because you cant seem to change certain parts of the closed loop area on the new M8 models, does this effect, in your opinion, the end result tune you are trying to achieve in a negative way???
Screaming Eagle Tuner Recall
I do not know if it works on earlier bikes. I am still using vers 9 on earlier ones. I only had that one bike there to tune that day, so was not looking to burn time doing experiments. One cannot tune the M8 with vers 9. At least not the one I have done so far. And Yes, it does change the way I would like to tune the bike. The owner already had the SEPST. Torrent marco antonio solis grandes exitos.
Bike was also speed limited to 185km/hr which is a bugger during closed course competition. I will be trying to use the PV license where possible as we can adjust speed limiter and closed loop. Who are you markwoumla? Do you tune for a job or home? Posted By Lushy on 19 Dec 2016 9:06 AM I just used the version 10 to tune a new 4 valve harley.

The version 9 software will not accept ANY of the new tunes. G'day Lushy, cant help with the toolbar but I am interested in what you said about not being able to change things in the the closed loop area, Is it just requested afr numbers that wont change or does it change altered VE numbers back? If its the AFR I can see why that would change the way you would go about dyno tuning it but if its VE then.well. It looks like PV is gunna be the winner here as no one pushes TTS much shop wise (for many and increasing reasons) and SE is hell bent on spoiling the fun. Also was that the Orange VCI you were using on the M8 or the new black Bugga? 'It's probably quite simple, probably as simple as changing/upping the cubic inches in the tuning constants' That would be conjecture.
I could still tune the bike with the software the way it is, just not exactly how I would like to do it. The WOT power would be the same. The friggin stupid 50mm high toolbar is the most annoying thing about the version 10 as you have to scroll up and down all the time to adjust the VE's etc. Really I was quite dissapointed at how the engine went. Like 4 hp more than a good 2006 88cube with the same sort of pipes and filter. I guess the potential is worth the extra money. Andrews, S&S and the like will be rubbing their hands together on this baby.
Money for Jam.
When I ran my previous version a few days ago and was prompted to check for updates, this new version was downloaded. There are a couple of differences between this and my previous version. Smart tune has the 'Interpolate' option which allows it to do some limited smoothing of the VE tables.
It fills in some obvious gaps where there was nothing collected in a cell during a data collection run but it does have data for some adjacent cells. Its not the greatest smoothing function but it helps. There's also now 'Smart Tune Live' as an optional way to collect data during a Smart tune run. This is an alternative to the usual method of putting the VCI into data record mode. With Smart Tune Live you leave your laptop connected during the run and it shows you the cells turning green as you hit them.
This is incredibly handy for saving time during Smart Tune as you don't have to spend hours on Smart tune runs trying to guess if you have managed to hit a particular bunch of cells. What I've done is buy a little 7' LCD monitor for my laptop and then mirror the laptop's main display onto it.
I've mounted this little screen to my SatNav RAM mount on the handlebars. The laptop goes in my solo bag. Here's some additional features of the latest version: Version 7.000.0004 Software is a 2014 Model Year update which includes the following: Calibrations Added: A bunch of 2014 models User Interface: Super Tuner software is now resizable using the controls in the upper right corner. (Minimum size is 1024 X 768) VCI Update: This update includes a new VCI software version. You will be required to update your software when you connect for the first time. Data: This release adds new data items for; “Head Temp”, “Coolant Temp” and “Engine Temp Sensor Volts”.
Enhanced graph feature that allows the user to pick a point on the graph and display data for that point. Tuning: Smart tune modifications allow the interpolation function to be used for a wider range of cells. Windows 8 Compatibility: Super Tuner is now compatible with Windows 8 (32-bit and 64-bit).
User’s Guide: User’s Guide has been merged into the Help File to simplify where technical information is located. Help File: Help File updates reflect the new software changes and now contains all information previously in the User’s Manual. Context sensitive Help is now available on each screen. Select the icon in the lower right corner of each screen for help related to that screen.
So we need to dig them up and repost them. I am sure SOMEONE would love to have it. Lpq printer not ready.
Or post it their rapidshare account to be downloaded! I really don't like HD's scheme with the SERT. Most removable 'tuners' do lock themselves to the vehicle they are used on, but once the tune is removed, they unlock and can be used on another vehicle. (Like my DiabloSport Predator for my truck.) I have a Dynojet PCIII USB on my 04 RK right now. But have been contemplating buying a SERT. But I can't see dumping $400 on it when it does no more than my PCIII.
